While we did take what I liked to call "core courses", we also had to take several smaller courses that had us working on specific things - whether it be a language or some form of media. In graphic design, we were taught how to use softwares like Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign to create powerful ads and good posters. While it was only a semester long, it's projects helped us gain a better understanding of work values, including communication, time management, and having a keen eye for detail. While it was one of my favorite courses because of my passion for graphic design, it was also one of the most challenging because of the goals and scenarios that became a daily routine in the class.
Project Overview - Candy Bar AdvertisementIn this project, we had to work in groups of three and come up with three seperate advertisements for a single product - which was a candy bar. With my group, which included Noah and Maggie, we had to do an advertisement for a white chocolate Kit Kat bar. This was something that required an eye for detail as well as the ever-going process of trail and error. Luckily, communication with the group and constructive criticism helped us make a better product. A major aspect of the project that I improved on was learning to teach others about a software that you might be more familiar with. In the end, not only did we make good final products, but I managed to grasp a better understanding on communication and time management.
This was another project that came later in the semester and put us in pairs. Our job: make a billboard and magazine advertisement for a specific show brand. My partner, Ryan, and I decided to do one on the popular brand known as Adidas. In order to do this, we had to follow a single slogan and a common aspect. For ours, we had Ryan posed with his skateboard and in a pair of Adidas. Then, we used Adobe Photoshop to make the image followed with InDesign to edit in the text. In the end, we managed to make a good advertisement following guidelines. Something that helped us stick to the project was communication, but because he was already familiar with the software, it actually became very easy communicating design ideas with him. I also learned a lot about managing your timne to get a project done on time.
